Life in 2019 feels like a balancing act. Every news cycle reports that we're on the edge of something, be it ecological disaster, political chaos, violence, and technological addiction. Even in my personal life, I feel caught between different worlds: Classical music and pop music, academic and non-academic worlds, childhood and adulthood (although I should probably soon admit that at 29, I'm an adult...). My life and the world around me are unstable and full of energy, in a way that's both exciting and terrifying. So, I decided to channel some of this energy into a piece. In Highwire, you'll hear music that is toppling, teetering, lurching, and balancing, in ways that are indicative of life in the modern world.
